Hi, we are Karen & Selma two ‘mature’ (yeah, we ain’t spring chickens any more or chooks as we say in Australia) aspiring writers who write a lot – blogging, short stories, those danged novels, writing for work – you name it, we can probably write it or have written about it at some stage.
A Novel Place is a blog about the journey and the process of writing. The ups and downs, the desires, the ambitions; how we keep ourselves motivated and what we have learned on that circuitous writing road as we clump along it.
In addition to this we will be including writing and publishing news as well as details on competitions and so on because what we want more than anything is for YOU to keep writing. Remember these quotes when you feel you’ve had enough with the travails of writing. They are actually true -
Quantity produces quality. If you only write a few things, you’re doomed.
Ray Bradbury
Writing a novel is like driving a car at night. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.
E. L. Doctorow
For me, writing is exploration; and most of the time, I’m surprised where the journey takes me.
Jack Dann
Close the door. Write with no one looking over your shoulder. Don’t try to figure out what other people want to hear from you; figure out what you have to say. It’s the one and only thing you have to offer.
Barbara Kingsolver
Writing is the flip side of sex – it’s good only when it’s over.
Hunter S. Thompson
